Around christmas a lot of people felt the urge to justify their consumption of meat to me, this is an everyday thing for most vegans I guess, and I see it as a part of the lifestyle I've chosen. But come christmas you have to hear the same thing from people who otherwise eat vegetarian or vegan food. The swedish tradition of "christmas ham", yes, eating the ass from a pig, is so deeply rooted in our culture that even animal activists cant help themself from "falling of the wagon".
The argument used to justify this consumption from all of the above was allways "But I buy organic meat from a local farmer." Hey, that's great from a enviromental point of view. But for me not eating meat or animal based products is about the longing for a world with less murdering. Period. The health aspects, the environmental benefits and the possibillities for a more equal use of the worlds resources, all of that is great bonuses. But to me organic and local murder, still is nothing but murder. No matter how humane the process.
And when even people who ususally agrees with this started to talk about the benefits of organic meat to justify their capitulating to tradition, well I got fed up and made this.
Granted, it's judgemental and the timing of puting it out there around christmas was not a smart move if you are interested in rethoric rules and winning an argument. But I'm pretty proud of the craft behind it and it felt good at the time.
